is a mobile app concept that organizes houseplants and houseplant care. the app allows people to have information about the plants they have in one place, have a watering/care schedule for them with notifications, and find other plants to add to their collection.
storyboarding
i started to see some problems with my plants after moving, and i had to visit many different websites to find information about specific plant issues. as with many plant owners, a lot of my problems came from watering issues, and having so many plants with different needs and watering schedules made me want a place to remind me to water my plants, too.
i first drew storyboards to orient my goals for the app and to get an idea of the user's situation when they go to use the app. the first storyboard details the persona user encountering a need:

the next storyboard builds off the first storyboard with the user using the app when the problem arises:

another storyboard for a different scenario for when and how the user would use the app:

plant care and plant admiration in one place
after creating an account, the user can add plants to their homepage, meant to be a representation of your home as a catalog of plants. users can open up plant pages to view the description for the plant and its care details. for plants in the home page, the user can use a calendar to set a watering schedule for a specific plant, add notes about fertilizer or problems, or write down their own notes.
they can then browse the plant catalog under "all plants" and add plants to their wishlist.

the app also recommends other plants based on the plant that the user is currently viewing. this information is based on data gathered from perusing Instagram plant pages and hashtags and noting down what plants appear together.

the catalog of houseplants is organized by categories accessible by a drop-down menu in order to help the user find plants with traits they are looking for. the user can also bypass categories and browse the entire catalog at once. users have control over the app by being able to set different notifications and scheduling, and options to suggest plants to be added to the catalog or make changes to any information.
